Oakland College (Mississippi)
Oakland College was a private college near Rodney, Mississippi. Founded by Dr. Jeremiah Chamberlain in 1830, the school was affiliated with the Presbyterian Church. It closed during Reconstruction, and some of its former campus is now part of the Alcorn State University Historic District. Oakland Community College (OCC) is a public community college with five campuses in Oakland County, Michigan. Established in 1964, OCC is the largest community college in Michigan, with the state's third-largest undergraduate enrollment. Enrollment at the college for the 2016-2017 school year was 29,560. Oakland Community College has been accredited by the Higher Learning Commission since 1971, and has a Carnegie Classification of Associate's Colleges: High Transfer-High Nontraditional. Oakland Early College (OEC) is a five-year early college high school serving students throughout Oakland County, Michigan. It represents a partnership between the West Bloomfield School District and Oakland Community College's (OCC) Orchard Ridge campus. Newsweek's annual ranking of public schools in America ranked OEC as #159. OEC students attend high school on OCC's campus and engage in a college-preparatory curriculum taught by teachers from West Bloomfield School District. OEC students participate in an integrated sequence of high school and college courses during grades 9-13. Oakland Normal Institute
Oakland Normal Institute was a private academy in Yale, Mississippi, that provided students a classical education in art and Latin, as well as education and business courses. It was established in 1887, and remained open until 1904, when it became a county school. History The original two-story building was torn down in the 1930s, and a one-story building was erected using much of the older building. The Oakland School, serving grades 1 through 8, was closed in 1954. In the 1950s a historic marker was erected at the school site, by former alumni of the Oakland Normal Institute. The building was renovated in 2004 and is now a Mississippi Historical Landmark. Notable alumni include T. Jeff Busby, a U.S. Representative from Mississippi, and John Breckinridge, a U.S. Attorney General. Oaklands College is a further education college in Hertfordshire, United Kingdom. It was established in 1991 when further education was reorganised. The college has campuses in St Albans and Welwyn Garden City, with a further provision in Borehamwood. Over 10,000 students study at the college annually, studying full time, part time and higher education courses as well as apprenticeships. History The site of the current St Albans Campus in Smallford, including the historic Mansion House, was purchased by Hertfordshire County Council in 1920.
